Monolithic
Pouring - Time and Termites
We
have been asked frequently why monolithic methods are being
increasingly
focused upon, and thought the following information may assist.
In the past
monolithic pouring was a pain to Form, Slide-Form combats those
problems and
lets you gain the advantages of a monolithic slab without the
forming hassles.
TIME
This
varies depending on the slab system chosen. But in just about
all cases
pouring monolithically using Slide-Form saves time. Simply because
you do not need to pour the footing first, then form for the
rest of the slab and pour that another day. It
also saves the poured footings needing cleaning prior to inspection
of any loose dirt or obstruction prior to the pour.
TERMITES
The
duty of care expected of a builder in the modern times has
extended
to include termite attack and damage well into the future.
This liability
for work done can not only be worrying but also expensive.
Changes
in legislation in Australia (which vary across the nation)
generally have prevented the continued use of organo-chlorides
and other chemicals normally associated with the killing/prevention
of Termite attack.
This
has led to the use of barrier systems both visual and physical.
The type of barrier system used is only good if it prevents
all avenues of
entrance to the structure.
In
both instances (physical barrier or visual) if there is a
penetrable subterranean gap between footing and slab termites
may have the ability to breech the barriers. Pouring monolithically
negates the chance of that gap.
SETTING
UP SLIDE FORM
Preparation
of site is as simple as the diagram suggests. From the datum
point
set the level of the site 300mm below Finished Floor Height
(FFL) at least 600mm out from slab edge. This is where the
locking plates rest and support the formwork.
Prepare
the required beams, trench or thickened edge depending on
your system of choice. At this point all the sanding up, under
slab plastic, reinforcing mesh and trench mesh can be completed.
Slide Form bottom channel is then aligned with string lines
to slab edge locked in place with the locking plates, set
to height and clamped onto pegs using the through tie hooks
and nuts.
Place
the rebate arms into the collars on the locking plate, set
the rebate depth (from zero to 240mm if using a visual system)
and hang the top channel on the arms.
Slide-Form
can be suspended off the ground (as depicted in the photo gallery) the
method described above is for an typical slab on ground house
slab. Diagram depicting monolithic pour -
Pouring
monolithically gives you speed and security in the knowledge
that no gaps exist for the possible entrance of termites.
It
is also faster when using Slide-Form.

In
the strip trench example above the Slide-Form system has been
slid back to make flat 300mm formwork for a two story extension.
Still desiring a monolithic pour the system is set out to
slab edge supported across the trench by the locking plates.
Please
do not hesitate to call if you have any questions about monolithic
pouring, it was a pain to form in wood but now Slide Form
does it faster, more accurately and with seven years of durable
guarantee will last a life time while doing it.
